I can do hard things. That’s the mantra that boomed through my head as I ran my first 10K. I inherited the phrase from my coworker and fellow runner, Sara Tan — the person who encouraged me to start running at all. The night before my race, nervous as all hell, I texted Tan asking for a mantra. The request represented more than a desire for a simple string of words to repeat. It was seeking an act of legacy. An athletic blessing.

SAN DIEGO — A beautiful San Diego sunrise greeted thousands of runners on Shelter Island as they lined up for the start of the inaugural lululemon San Diego 10K. It was a perfect southern California morning with 60-degree temperatures. Although there was a touch of fog to begin the day, by the time the airhorn sounded, it had burned off and the 5,000 participants were treated to views of the Shelter Island Marina. The course took runners along picturesque San Diego Bay and attracted runners from 41 states and six Canadian provinces. Participants were encouraged throughout the 6.2 miles by eager supporters, inspirational signage, and enthusiastic cheer zones.

Boston — DMSE Sports and lululemon are ramping up for lululemon’s first U.S.-based 10K road race this Sunday, November 10. Host city San Diego will provide idyllic views to the participants of the inaugural lululemon San Diego 10K as they run along the Port of San Diego, beginning in Shoreline Park on Shelter Island, and finishing on the opposite side of North San Diego Bay in Waterfront Park.
