OVER 5,000 RUNNERS CELEBRATE RUNNING AND MINDFULNESS AT THE FIRST LULULEMON SAN DIEGO 10K

A sold-out field enjoyed scenic port views, enthusiastic cheer zones, indulgent post-race treats, and recovery yoga

SAN DIEGO — A beautiful San Diego sunrise greeted thousands of runners on Shelter Island as they lined up for the start of the inaugural lululemon San Diego 10K. It was a perfect southern California morning with 60-degree temperatures. Although there was a touch of fog to begin the day, by the time the airhorn sounded, it had burned off and the 5,000 participants were treated to views of the Shelter Island Marina. The course took runners along picturesque San Diego Bay and attracted runners from 41 states and six Canadian provinces. Participants were encouraged throughout the 6.2 miles by eager supporters, inspirational signage, and enthusiastic cheer zones.

“The lululemon San Diego 10K was more than a race—it was an experience,” said Matt West, senior vice president of operations at DMSE Sports. “Our goal was to feature local culture—the people, the area businesses, the overall vibe, kind of like a love letter of sorts to the city. It’s been great partnering with the Port of San Diego and the city itself. I think we got to show off some of San Diego’s best features.”

Participants gathered in Shoreline Park on Shelter Island, welcomed by an excited group of volunteers. Before departing, the field of runners were led in a collective deep breath and mindful moment by Global Run Ambassador Charlie Dark before situating themselves within the start line corral.

Seven cheer stations lined the course, from the Lincoln High School drumline to the World of Dance dancers to Spark Cycle spinners and San Diego Pride. The last two cheer stations—Cali Love and Om Base—the lululemon regional cheer station—were open to the public, and the excitement was electric as runners neared the finish line. The enthusiasm of the runners and the community that supported them was infectious. Hundreds of spectators cheered participants along the course, shouting encouragement and waving motivational signs.

Lululemon Global Ambassador Rob Watson won in the men’s division with a time of 31:58. Steven Tyler Underwood and Matt Harris took second and third place with times of 32:10 and 32:39, respectively.

Natasha Labeaud took the top prize in the women’s division with a time of 35:15, with Lauren Andrews crossing the finish line in 36:38 and Angela Moll following at 36:40.

More than 5,000 finishers received custom finishers medals, ate custom donuts, listened to music by DJ Sol Rising, visited a lululemon pop-up shop and a post-race party area, took photos in front of the San Diego mural by Southern California-based design group Pandr, and partook in two 500-person community yoga classes led by lululemon Global Yoga Ambassador, Alex Mazerolle.

The veteran service organization Wounded Warrior Project was the charitable partner for this inaugural race. At the time of this writing, the lululemon San Diego 10K had raised more than $12,600 for the organization.
