The world’s oldest annual marathon, first run in 1897, is usually held in April, but this year it’s scheduled for October 11 because of the global coronavirus pandemic. But that date is contingent on big road races with tens of thousands of runners being allowed as part of the reopening plan in the northeast U.S. state of Massachusetts.

A new marathon will be step off Sept. 28 and circle the home field of the New England Patriots more than 100 times. The event — on a course that is USA Track & Field certified and the only Boston Marathon qualifier run entirely in an NFL stadium — will raise money for homeless shelters across the region.

GILLETTE STADIUM TO HOST ITS FIRST 26.2-MILE MARATHON CIRCLING THE GAME FIELD THIS FALL

On Friday, Sept. 28, 100 runners will run 26.2 miles around the home turf of the New England Patriots to raise money for homeless shelters throughout the region. Participants will run more than 100 laps on the warning track surrounding the turf. The course is USA Track & Field (USATF) certified and the only Boston Marathon qualifier run entirely in an NFL stadium.
