GILLETTE STADIUM WILL HOST 26.2-MILE MARATHON, ONLY BOSTON MARATHON QUALIFIER RUN ENTIRELY IN NFL STADIUM

MASS LIVE

If you like running marathons and watching the New England Patriots, this is the event for you.

Gillette Stadium is hosting its first 26.2-mile marathon on Friday, Sept. 28, which will feature 100 runners running over 100 laps on the warning track surrounding the field turf. The course is USA Track and Field (USATF) certified, and the only Boston Marathon qualifier run entirely in an NFL stadium. The race will help raise money for homeless shelters throughout the region.

"We are thrilled to be hosting our first marathon inside Gillette Stadium," Josh Kraft, president of the New England Patriots Foundation, said in a press release. "This is a really unique opportunity for participants to run a USATF-certified course that covers 26.2 miles entirely inside the home of the Patriots and the Revolution and will help us to raise critical funds for the New England Patriots Foundation to benefit homeless shelter programs throughout the region."

Runners will enjoy live performances and music, appearances by New England Patriots alumni and cheerleaders, and other entertainment during the race. Spectators will be able to watch the race from the Optum Field Lounge, which will also be a water stop in the race.

The race will begin at 5 p.m., and finish under the lights of Gillette Stadium. Two days later, the Patriots will host the Miami Dolphins for their Week 4 matchup at 1 p.m.

Spots for the marathon are limited, and selections will be made until all the spots are filled. Accepted runners will be notified on a rolling basis. Participants will be required to raise a minimum of $5,000. You can apply to run the race here.
