BOSTON — Renowned race director and endurance athlete Dave McGillivray finished his 47th consecutive B.A.A. Boston Marathon at 9:45pm after having open-heart, triple bypass surgery only six months ago.
McGillivray was joined by 15 other running friends, including eight who ran the 2018 World Marathon Challenge with him.

BOSTON – Renowned race director and endurance athlete Dave McGillivray will attempt to run the 123rd B.A.A. Boston Marathon just six months after undergoing open-heart, triple-bypass surgery on October 12, 2018. This will be McGillivray’s 47th consecutive running of the world-famous marathon, of which he is race director. McGillivray will make his attempt after completing his official race day duties.

At 62, Dave McGillivray also has been race director of the Boston Marathon for 29 years and is owner of DMSE Sports Inc., a firm that manages sports events and charity races across the country, from the Falmouth Road Race to the Walk for Hunger.

Dave McGillivray is a charity runner. Please reach down and hold onto your knee that is jerking in reaction, dismissing him as an under-prepared glory-seeker using the sport to support an unrelated cause, who will likely never run again. Charity runners have earned a bad rep, some of it deserved, but there are many exceptions. They aren’t all looking for someone to pay their way to an exotic locale or for a back-door entry to the Boston Marathon.
