He played seven NFL seasons in New England, including all 16 games at right tackle for the Super Bowl Patriots of 1996, who fell to Green Bay in the title game. The fire of competition still burns in 46-year-old Max Lane.

Lane took time out of his schedule Saturday to participate in the DMSE “Celebrity Mile” Road Race on the campus of Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass.

For your own good, Patriots fans, don’t be discouraged by the Packers’ style “G” on the T-shirt Lane is wearing. Lane is a coach on the staff at Georgetown (Mass.) High School, where his son, Hunter, is a rising star on the gridiron.

Lane was an overachiever for the Patriots, making 70 regular season starts and playing in 100 regular season games. The Naval Academy product was a sixth-round pick in the 1994 NFL Draft.
